Joe Mauer is eager to play, and Nike has sent him shoes and orthotics that might make his bruised left heel comfortable enough to play through, but manager Ron Gardenhire is reluctant to put his star back in the lineup before he’s completely healed.

“You can’t let it linger on, and you can’t let him get back out there and then all the sudden reinjure it,” Gardenhire said Wednesday.

The reigning American League MVP hasn’t played since April 30, when he bruised his left heel trying to leg out a grounder during the Twins’ 9-3 victory at Cleveland. He’s been diagnosed with a deep soft-tissue bruise.

“I want to be out there, today, but you have to be smart about it, too,” the catcher said. View full post on Yahoo! Sports – MLB – Minnesota Twins News

The Minnesota Twins didn’t play very good after opening day as they lost the last three games of a four game series ot the Los Angeles Angels.   They played some close ball games, but the Angels prevailed in the end.  The Twins record is now 1-3 after the first four games of the season.

Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau are both hitting the ball pretty good so I’m not feeling bad about them.  The Twins just need to figure out how to win those one run ballgames, and the good thing is that there is plenty of time left in the season to do that.

We will have to wait and hear how serious Kevin Slowey’s injury is.  He had to leave the game in the fourth inning with a strained right bicep.  Lets hope it isn’t too serious.
