The Minnesota Twins entered the final series of the season with one goal — to avoid losing 100 games. They’re one game away from making that happen. Rene Tosoni hit a grand slam and Chris Parmelee also went deep to lift the Twins to a 7-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Vin Mazzaro entered the game against Minnesota on Tuesday night in the toughest of situations — bases loaded, nobody out with the Kansas City Royals down 3-2. The Minnesota Twins catcher has pneumonia, the latest malady in this maddening season full of them. His last game of the year came on Sept. 14. But Mauer said Monday he’s sure there’s nothing wrong with him more than the sickness that prematurely ended his rough season, and he insisted he…

Thanks in part to an inadvertent gesture in the dugout, Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire kept his Twins from taking another one on the chin. Rene Tosoni homered in the 10th inning and Chris Parmelee added an RBI single to give Minnesota a 6-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. It was only the third win in 22 games for the battered and reeling Twins, who caught a break when Gardenhire…
