The Minnesota Twins dropped to 17-16 on the season as they lost to the Chicago White Sox 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.  The Twins dropped two of three games against the White Sox in the series. Talk about a let down for the Twins…

Kevin Slowey took the loss for the Twins after giving up three runs and four hits in five innings.  Slowey’s record drops to 0-2 on the season with the loss.  Juan Rincon, Pat Neshek, and Brian Bass all gave up one run as they pitched in relief.

Matt Tolbert and Joe Mauer had a rbi each for the Twins.  The rest of the team pretty much struggled at the plate as they struck out eleven times and left ninteen runners on base.

The Minnesota Twins clobbered the Chicago White Sox 12-1 byehind Carlos Gomez who hit for the cycle.  Gomez was the first Twins player to hit for the cycle since Kirby Puckett did it 22 years ago.

Gomez wasn’t the only Twins player to put up good numbers however as Nick Punto had five rbi in the game to lead the Twins.  Have Punto’s five rbi, Gomez’s three rbi, Michael Cuddyer, Delmon Young, and Matt Tolbert all had one rbi.

Livan Hernandez was great on the mound as he improved to 5-1 on the season after tossing a complete game.  Hernandez gave up nine hits in the nine innings and only allowed one run which came in the ninth inning when Jermaine Dye hit a solo home run.

The Twins are now 17-15 on the season after the butt kicking off the White Sox.  Twins Blog

The Minnesota Twins were nearly no-hit by the Gavin Floyd and the Chicago White Sox but Joe Mauer came to the rescue for the Twins in the ninth inning.  Mauer doubled to deep left center field to break up the no hitter in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out.

The Twins did get one run earlier in the game when Jason Kubel hit a sacrafice fly to to center that scored Mauer.

Nick Blackburn pitched six inning and allowed six hits and four runs.  Three of the four runs were earned.  Jesse Crain pitched one inning and allowed two runs.  Bobby Korecky pitched one inning and also gave up a earned run.

It was just a bad pitching and hitting performance by the entire Twins lineup.  They can pretty much only do better tomorrow against the White Sox.
